AT&T Testing + Two Potential Variants = Potential for a Verizon Galaxy S5 Or are they budget and Premium versions as we previously thought? In a previous post, we talked about the rumor that AT&T is testing one of the Galaxy S5 variants. If the testing rumor is true, it would imply that AT&T will carry that specific device. If AT&T indeed has a Galaxy S5 variant, then no doubt Sprint and T-Mobile will also carry the device, but they don’t require special technology for the device to be carried since they use much the same network and cellular technology – the GSM network. However, the rumor only mentioned one of the two variants that are confirmed to exist, and didn’t mention which one. We know there are two variants – the SM-G900A and SM-G900F, as these have been confirmed by the benchmark testing by AnTuTu and Browsermark, but what we don’t know for sure is whether the second device is a budget Galaxy S5 or something else entirely. “Something Else” Might be a Verizon Galaxy S5 We previously assumed that the second variant would mean that Galaxy is getting a budget and a premium version, as iPhone did with…
Will Galaxy S5 Display be Flat or Curved? In our last few posts, we talked about a potential release date for the Galaxy S5, noting that it is likely to be announced at the February, 2014 press event that Samsung has scheduled to take the day before the Mobile World Congress is scheduled to open to show off its own Tizen mobile OS. Galaxy S5 Display in Production Already? However, according to the latest rumors that made it around the mill over the Christmas holiday, the Galaxy S5 has apparently made it into mass production already – or parts of it have, anyway, but this rumor feels a bit fishy to us. According to a report by the International Business Times via Korean publication Ddaily.co.kr, the current device display in mass production is a 5.25-inch flat QHD AMOLED display featuring a resolution of 2560 pixels by 1440 pixels, as we mentioned previously, and it will sport a pixel density of 560 pixels per inch – which we also mentioned previously. However, we also talked about the Galaxy S5 featuring a bendable or otherwise flexible display previously, although at the time we were not (and still are not) sure how it…
Benchmark of SM-G900F Confirms Two Galaxy S5 Variants The weekend has been a busy one for Samsung, what with a dozen or so new rumors making their way around the mill. One rumor, caught our eye more than the others did, in the respect that the rumor further confirmed a piece of information we have been writing about for a few weeks now. We went right to the source – AnTuTu’s Blog – used Google Translate (we don’t read Chinese) and read for ourselves that a Samsung device was indeed tested using the AnTuTu app. Previous Galaxy S5 Benchmarks Previously we wrote about the potential for Samsung to release two different smartphones under the Galaxy S5 name. The speculation surrounding that rumor has turned into a confirmation via another benchmarking application. According to the Browsermark Application benchmark results, the app tested two devices that belong to Samsung; the SM-G900F variant and the SM-G900A variants. Though the previous test results didn’t offer up any supporting information, such as mobile OS, CPU, resolution, or other hardware specs the device used during the test, but we did see that there are two variants of the Galaxy S5, as reported here. Galaxy S5 AnTuTu…
Getting Ready for MWC Release in February? Today, we’ve got a couple of exciting rumors for you – one concerns a potential Galaxy S5 release date and the other pre-market testing. Of course, you have – everyone has heard of this “walking rumor mill. AT&T Rumored to be Testing Galaxy S5 Well, according to the latest @evleaks tweet concerning the Galaxy S5, AT&T has apparently gotten its hands on the device already for pre-market testing in their labs. The tweet reads: “AT&T is testing a version of that high-res Samsung handset (SM-G900A), giving some support to the theory that it’s an int’l flagship (GS5?)” Note that the tweet specifically mentions the variant “SM-G900A” and not the “F,” and it claims the “A” variant is a “high-res,” device – backing up our double device theory, in which we speculate on a premium Galaxy S5 and a budget Galaxy S5. The testing that @Evleaks is referring to is the pre-market testing required by the FCC to ensure the live device does not interfere with other devices or networks, while making sure…
Galaxy S5 Potentially Ups Device Security We’ve seen another interesting rumor parading itself around the mill the last few days, and it confirms the ISOCELL camera technology rumor, courtesy of the Analysts Day documents, as well as the 2,000 display, 560 ppi rumor. According to the report, the scanner will allow the Galaxy S5 to scan a user’s iris, and then use that scan to lock and unlock the device. The eye scanning technology will also be used for other authentication needs, says NDTV. Galaxy S5 to Get Updated Design with Carbon Treated Body? Over the last few days, we’ve seen a number of “new” rumors making their way through the mill concerning the Galaxy S5, some of which seem to confirm some of our previous reports about the much-anticipated Samsung device. Let’s get started, shall we? Galaxy S5 to Get Diamond Metal Body To start, it’s been rumored once again that the Galaxy S5 – predecessor to the well-received Galaxy S4 – will feature a huge design change from its predecessor. Apparently, says TrustedReviews.com, Galaxy S5 will indeed feature a metal body, but not just any metal body. In fact, says the rumor, the Galaxy S5 will feature a “diamond metal” metal body that will make it even more scratch, ding and dent resistant than any of the S5’s predecessors have ever been. According to the report, while the Galaxy S5 will not be diamond encrusted, or contain any bits of the precious gem at all. However, the way that the device’s frame and body will be made will make the device just as hard as diamonds are, hence the name “diamond metal.” Apparently, Samsung is in the middle of a research project…
New Galaxy S5 Concept Viable While we were researching the information for our last post about the PLS LCD display and the possibility that Samsung is releasing a budget and premium version of its much anticipated Galaxy S5 smartphone, we ran across a interesting post featuring the Galaxy S5. Check out the mockup…
Will Galaxy S5 Follow iPhone with a Budget and Premium Version? We have a couple of new rumors that have recently surfaced regarding changes Samsung may make to Galaxy S5. Samsung has apparently taken a cue from Apple and its two different iPhone versions, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C in the release of the upcoming, but still unannounced device. Two Galaxy S5 Device Models Do you remember when we told you about two different Samsung models that made it to a benchmark test? We talked about the potential for the two model number variants SM-G900F and SM-G900S to turn out to be the Samsung Galaxy J and the Galaxy S5 because of the recent excitement over a possible Galaxy S5 sighting, and the recent excitement over the Galaxy J release in Taiwan. However, this is apparently not the case. According to the International Business Times, the two model number variants SM-G900F and SM-G900S are not two different devices, but two variations on the same device – the Galaxy S5. The report notes that the SM-G900F is a premium Galaxy S5 version and SM-G900S is a budget Galaxy S5 version, and suggests that Samsung is going this route in an…
RightWare Benchmarks Two Samsung Devices We’ve got an awesome and interesting rumor that’s made its way through the mill today – this time about a potential candidate that could actually be the Samsung Galaxy S5 in the wild. According to RightWare via PhoneArena, a new phone has made an appearance in the wild. The report notes that it is possible that the device in the wild could indeed be the actual Samsung Galaxy S5 candidate. Two Potential Candidates The device, a candidate form Samsung with the model number SM-G900F, was introduced to PhoneArena via the RightWare – a company that performs device performance reviews and sets benchmarks – when it released benchmark results for a different device, the results were more than exciting. In fact, according to RightWare, the company benchmarked a different device with an awesome resolution that is pretty much along the lines of what were are expecting any Samsung device to have -2560 pixels by 1440 pixels. RightWare saw the SM-G900F using the Browsermark, and it came out the other end with admirable performance benchmarks, says PhoneArena. Specially, the device landed in the top three spot, which is something else you’d expect from a Samsung device –…
Is the Galaxy S5 Release Date Rumor True? A video popped up from Samsung stating that the Galaxy J would be released on Monday, December 9, which caused a panic for those awaiting the Galaxy S5. Why was it such an issue? Because the latest rumor around the mill says that the Galaxy J is in fact none other than the Galaxy S5, but is it? The simple answer is no, it is not. According to a strange and contradictory post by the International Business Times, the long awaited release of the Galaxy S5 is here, and it is releasing in Taiwan as the Galaxy J. The IBT’s exact statement is: “Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is scheduled today after Samsung has teased fans with a video of a handset with metallic body.” While we appreciate the enthusiasm, and we know that it is exciting to think that the Galaxy S5 is in fact being released today, we think you shouldn’t get your hopes up. There are too many contradictions between the Samsung J the Galaxy S5, and what we know about both for the former to be the same as the latter. Maybe J is a scaled down version,…
